Who is your role model for creating radical change?
Is it Amy Cuddy that gave one of the most watched TED Talks, focusing on developing your presence with body language?
Or would it be Adam Grant, the author of “Originals: How Nonconformists Move the World“?
Or maybe you want to be like Angela Duckworth who left a high paying corporate gig to teach elementary school and then go on to get her doctorate and research Grit?
Maybe you would rather aspire to be like the most recognized leaders of Radical Change, Steve Jobs, Bill Gates or Elon Musk? Or do you want to be more like Mother Theresa, Queen Elizabeth II or Gloria Steinem? Maybe it is Oprah, Ghandi or Prince. Maybe it is Tesla or Edison. It could even be Buffet or Zuckerburg.
There are many who have created products or services so phenomenal that we never wanted to go back to what we had before. There are so those that created change in the social and political world so significant that we never pine for the “good old days.”
Maybe the leader you most want to be like doesn’t have a worldwide reputation. Maybe you want to be one of those individuals known in smaller circles but one that made life much better. It could be a parent or grandparent, aunt or uncle. You might be most enamored with a friend, neighbor or business associate.
Who we choose reflects the type of change we want to make. Our choice doesn’t mean that person is perfect or above reproach. All it means is that they have done something we admire and would like to emulate.
In the end, what matters most is that whoever we choose is one who hasn’t just played it safe or conformed to the status quo. Instead, those that create radical change are individuals who have made such dramatic improvements that we never want to return to our old patterns, routine and habits. It isn’t just a small adjustment but rather a paradigm shift, a quantum leap forward.
Have you made your decision? If so, who is your role model for creating radical change?
