Can 2017 be your year of disruption? Can you create radical change in your career or company in 2017? Or should you just settle for incremental change?
That is the choice everyone of us faces as we look forward to 2017. The good news is that with so much change happening, there are incredible opportunities available. The question becomes, “Are you the one who will seize those incredible opportunities or will it be someone else?”
Here are 7 ways that you can break out of mediocrity and become that disruptive leader who creates radical change.
1. Focus on OPPORTUNITY
There are incredible opportunities available at our fingertips. Unfortunately, most people never see or seize them because they think they are obstacles, worry about going outside of their comfort zones or don’t think it is possible. All they see is problems and others seize those opportunities.
It doesn’t matter whether you are an employee or an entrepreneur or executive. If you are in Human Resources, marketing or middle management, 2017 holds incredible opportunities for you to create radical change and become the disruptive leader of your own life, career or company. The first question is, “Are you focusing on opportunities or obstacles?”
2. Make a conscious choice to DISRUPT
Focusing is a conscious choice. Focusing on creating a disruptive change is also a thoughtful choice. No one just happens to disrupt. To venture where no one has gone before demands a strategic decision.

3. Focus on COLLABORATION – Look Beyond COMPETITION
Many don’t grasp that the Sharing Economy offers incredible opportunities to connect, collaborate and create what the world has never seen. Notice the central element is to collaborate. That means willing working together. That also means that we set ourselves apart from the competition when we work with like minded individuals to disrupt.

4. Follow the TRENDS
Daniel Burrus in “Flash Foresight” gives a simple formula for disrupting. Follow the trends and forecast the opportunities. That requires lifting your nose from the grindstone and looking around, seeing the patterns and then looking for the opportunities. It starts with purposely looking for the patterns.
What are the trends in your industry? Are they cyclical or linear trends? What opportunities do you see emerging from those trends in 2017?
5. LEVERAGE – Don’t Wield – POWER
The Sharing Economy is built on trusting relationships. Despite what the old Industrial Age Paradigm said, the best opportunities in 2017 will come when we leverage the power we currently have. We don’t have to grab power, forcing others to do what we want. Instead, as we learn to leverage our leadership power, we will build a loyal following that gladly buy our products and services. There is no need to wield power when we have a loyal following.

6. CONNECT with Winners
Connect to collaborate to create. But make sure you are connecting with winners. Losers love to say they want to collaborate but will rarely do what they need to do to the level needed to deliver on time. Instead, steel sharpens steel and champions work best with other champions. If you want to be a winner, connect with those that have the winning attitude, skills, knowledge and goals.

7. DELEGATE & OUTSOURCE
Too many of us are doing things that we are not our strengths. That means we are not spending enough time doing where we are the most talented. Isn’t that kind of crazy? One of the ways I’ve been able to help others is by ghostwriting their books, blogs, white papers, emails, and eCourses. When we try to save a few bucks by doing it ourselves, we often lose valuable profits from doing what we do best. Focus on the profitable and delegate the challenging.
