Are You Aware of this Secret to Leadership Power?

There is an easier way. For years we have heard that the best way to lead is to build a power base upon networks of powerful people in important positions.

That sounds reasonable, doesn’t it?

As I’ve studied leadership, business success and disruptive innovation over the last four decades, that seemed to be the best method. In many ways, it seems like the smart way to lead our lives then and even today. After all, it’s great to know powerful people who can open doors for us.

A Secret

But maybe we have missed something.

“As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others.” Bill Gates

Bill Gates turns convention on its head. He is saying that empowering others is the secret to leadership of the future. He knows that leveraging power out preforms brute force and strict obedience. When you can build a team of talented people and then getting out of their way, that is the secret to disruptive innovation.

Maybe this isn’t a secret for some but it is often overlooked by many.

Your Response

What is your response? What happens when you read this quote from one of the world’s wealthiest leaders that disagrees with what you have believed to be best leadership practices?

  • Does it wake us up?
  • Does it cause us to rethink what we have become accustomed to?
  • Does it cause us to change our behavior?
