Why play 2021 safe?
We’ve lived through a difficult 2020.
Yes, we’ve survived.
But now what?
Those that follow me know that I help clients set and achieve audacious goals by thinking bigger, reaching higher, and doing what others think is “impossible.” A critical step in that process is getting beyond our ordinary thinking by eliminating excuses.
You will never become a disruptive leader or create a disruptive innovation by making excuses.
In a recent post, I challenged you to set audacious goals for 2021.
This post is specifically for those that either didn’t set audacious goals or set them and have given up already. It might even be for those still considering setting an audacious goal. (TIP: You can set an audacious goal at any time.)
Whenever I ask clients and potential clients to consider doing what they fear or consider “impossible”, they often respond with the defensive question, “Why?”
It’s a natural thing to do.
I know I used to respond that way.
Instead of considering the exciting possibilities, we recoil and strike back.
But what does that get us?
Without change, without audacious change, we suffer with the same problems. We quit thinking about a breakthrough.
Asking, “Why?” closes our thinking to incredible opportunities.
That is the very definition of stupid, according to my 2020 book, “Stop Being S.T.U.P.I.D. in Times of Opportunity.”
Instead, imagine being bold enough to take the daring step.
Imagine tackling the challenge instead of deflecting it back to someone else.
Imagine pushing yourself farther than you have ever pushed yourself before.
Asking, “why not?” opens our minds to what can be.
Remember what I wrote in the first post of 2021.
I challenged you to stop whining and start looking for great opportunities.
Remember when I wrote about how I challenged myself to run 8 half marathons in nine weeks?
Remember also that I said I really don’t enjoy running?
Remember also, that I met that challenge, along with several others when many were enjoying a Snow Day in 2020.
I did it not because I’m incredibly talented. In fact, I’m a slow runner.
I did it not because I’m better than you. Actually, I believe that if I can do it, so can you.
I met that audacious challenge because I decided I wanted to.
It’s that simple.
2021 offers incredible opportunities.
Your success is your choice.
Forget the excuses.
Imagine what you can do.
In spite of the Coronavirus taking more lives and restricting our activities, we still have tremendous opportunities.
The key is to stop and look.
Allow yourself to imagine what success is possible when you dare to accept the challenge, plan strategically, and then work to make it reality.
Imagine what you can do when you quit making excuses.
DO THE IMPOSSIBLE
