3 Ways to Pivot Your Results in 2022

Look into the future. What will your business look like at this time next year?

In this post, we discuss 3 ways you can pivot your business to significantly improve your business in one year.

Those that follow me know I write about thinking bigger and reaching higher to realize your breakthrough success. I help aspiring and emerging leaders make one pivot and create the habit of pivotal success. As leaders, executives, entrepreneurs, or employees, the more we learn how to avoid mistakes and to learn from our mistakes, the quicker we can break through to our ultimate level of success.

The Problem

You have heard me say it many times. We often settle for ordinary results when we could have the ultimate. We settle because we are comfortable and safe with predictable results.

Unfortunately, as we have seen clearly in 2020 and 2021, life is NOT predictable. We CANNOT get comfortable or feel safe when the world is changing so rapidly and radically.

Our only choice is to become PIVOTAL, constantly tracking the trends and forecasting the opportunities while keeping one foot firmly planted in the reality of the present.

That is very challenging.

However, there is a process that you can learn and use so, even in these unpredictable times, you can look ahead and find your next, great opportunities by thinking bigger, reaching higher, and then doing what you never imagined was possible.

Let’s discuss three ways you can do that right now.

#1. Pivot Your Vision

What is your vision for 2022 in your business?

That’s a question all of us need to ask ourselves periodically. We need to stop and think about what we want. That might sound obvious but you might be surprised how many people don’t start there. Instead, they start with what they think is possible.

What’s the difference?

Limiting our vision to what we consider possible restricts our vision and limits our results. It keeps us in that safe-comfortable-predictable process that limits our vision.

Think about it. If we don’t think something is possible or at least, not possible for us, we tend to play it safe and work with the same strategy and action plan that got us to this point.

What happens when we play it safe but the market changes?

You guessed it. That’s when we struggle to keep our businesses afloat.

Is that good enough?

Of course not. Who wants to struggle to survive when we can learn to thrive.

Don’t you want more?

I hope so because the unpredictability of the current world is creating some incredible opportunities.

Start by first defining what you ultimately want. That will expand your vision to see possibilities and opportunities you would otherwise ignore or overlook.

That creates a vision that is more challenging, even daunting, but big enough that you are willing to collaborate to make that lofty vision a reality.

Your Challenge: Think Bigger. What do you really want to achieve by the end of 2022?

#2. Pivot Your Strategy

A bigger vision demands we pivot our strategy. “To get ________ I need to change ____________.”

We all know that success is built on processes input- throughput- output sequence to insure our best results. We start by working backwards, understanding what we ultimately want and then figuring out what the best strategy is to realize that vision.

  • How can we better serve our current customers and clients?
  • How have their needs changed in the last year or two?
  • How can we improve our current products and services?
  • What new products and services should we provide?
  • What new markets will we pursue?
  • What products and services does that market want and need?

In pivoting your strategy, don’t forget your internal customers. The Great Resignation is challenging almost all companies. Don’t be like so many that complain that they are leaving but not understand why.

  • How have the needs and desires of your current team changed since the spring of 2020?
  • What is your strategy to engage your current employees to prevent them leaving?
  • What is your strategy to engage them in such a way they become valuable collaborators and recruiters?

Your Challenge: Reach higher to engage your current team, customers and future markets.

#3. Pivot Your Action

Remember, just as a bigger vision demands we pivot our strategy, a more aggressive strategy demands a more aggressive action plan.

Maybe you need to do more.

Maybe you need to something significantly different.

maybe you need to do it much better.

To pivot your action, ask yourself this question.

“To get ________ I need to change ____________.”

Your Challenge: Do more than you thought was possible.
